PhotoGuru Media Player is designed to display photos and videos from various file- and photo hosting services on Android-based phones, tablets, smart TVs and set-top boxes. The intuitive and beautiful user interface gives users easy access to the photos and provides an inexpensive way to showcase photos, videos and media presentations in the most professional way possible. PhotoGuru is compatible with Android TV devices as well as Amazon’s FireTV media players. Rendering of images in 4K/UHD (3840 x 2160 pixel) is supported on the NVidia Shield (all versions) as well as on the newer Amazon FireTV devices.
The app has been installed >500,000 times from the Google- and Amazon stores and is used in homes, offices and store fronts all over the world.
PhotoGuru Media Player can access photos and videos from the following cloud-based photo- and file hosting services:
- Amazon Drive
- Google Drive / Google Photos
- Local files on device or on USB drive/stick
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Samba/CIFS (e.g. shared files on Windows machines)
Photos and videos can be presented automatically in slideshow mode with various transitions (Ken Burns, random, slide-in, fly-in, dissolve and pan&zoom). If available, videos are integrated into the slideshow and start automatically. Swiping gestures allow users to quickly scroll through photo- and video collection and zooming is supported via pinch-zoom.
The app is compatible with most video file formats. Copyrighted video files (e.g. ripped DVDs) can be played via “external video players” (VLC or MXPlayer).
PhotoGuru accesses all cloud-based file- and photo hosting services in read-only mode and is designed to give clients, friends and family easy access to photos without allowing them to modify the hosted photos or videos.

The app is 100% free of ads, does not cost anything and there is no functional difference between free and paid versions with the exception of a trial message. This trial message can be removed by purchasing a module for the data source you are currently using (i.e. if you display your photos/videos from Microsoft OneDrive, you would purchase the OneDrive module and if you display them from Dropbox, you would buy the Dropbox module). Module prices vary due to currency conversions and are approximately $4.50. After buying the third module, all modules will get unlocked and the app will run without any restrictions.
Proceeds of the app are used to finance future development of the app and to purchase new equipment for testing (e.g. to test 4K rendering of images on newly released Android TV hardware).
The app is currently listed in the Amazon- and Google stores and has been reviewed by hundreds of users. The average rating of the app in the Google Play Store is approximately 4.4 out of 5 stars.
